Commissioner Sam Shivute, Head of the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), delivered an inspiring message to businesswomen on Friday 15 November at an Economist Businesswomen Club Breakfast held at the Hilton Hotel.
In his keynote, Commissioner Shivute paid tribute to the women who shaped his personal and professional journey, acknowledging their influence in his success. “Most of the greatest lessons I have learned, I learned from women, and the best bosses I have had were women. Women have played a significant role in my life and success—so I make sure to give them flowers while they are still alive,” he said.
Focusing on self-belief, growth, and future pacing, Shivute urged participants to visualize their goals and take deliberate action to achieve them. He led the audience through a practical exercise of visualization, encouraging them to see and feel their desired future before taking steps to make it reality. “Faith without action is dead. Future pacing will take you where you want to be if you do it correctly,” he emphasized.
He challenged women to deepen their self-awareness, likening personal growth to the journey of a diamond—whether still underground, in the polishing stage, or already shining in a jewelry store. Growth, he said, requires clarity of goals, perseverance, and resilience through challenges.
Shivute also reminded the audience that true success is not only measured by wealth, but by service to others and contribution to community. Preparation, continuous learning, and adaptability were recurring themes in his talk: “That which is not growing is dying. You must learn, unlearn, and relearn. Always prepare yourself for the opportunities that lie ahead.”
He closed with a powerful reminder on presence and networking: “Be unapologetic in how you show up. Take care of your appearance, your brand, your health, your mindset. Share your knowledge with the world—and be unlimited.”
The session left attendees inspired to embrace intentional growth, stay resilient in the face of challenges, and boldly step into their brilliance.
